- HU articles had been introduced into Hungarian through the emulation of ARTICLES (definite, indefinite, masculine, feminine and neuter) from the Indo-Germanic languages in Europe, most significantly influenced by gender crazy German der,die,das and French le,la,ça. Naturally it was promulgated and applauded by Hungary's Germanic minorities.
- Before the Indo-German impact on Hungarian Articles, ONLY the DEMONSTRATIVE ez/az existed in Hungarian.
- So the quick solution was to adopt the Hungarian demonstrative as DEFINITE ARTICLE a/az. But of course that decision inevitably produce lot of confusion in the mind of even the native language user. Eg. Az az ember, nem ez az ember.
- Now, one needs to decide which one is Article and which one is demonstrative pronoun...... Well well so much for the German/French influence thrown at a non-Indo-Germanic Hungarian.
- Total shamble, but currently we still have to put up with it.
