DEFINITE ARTICLE: PRECEDES a specific and known/defined thing or person and also its adjective if any being used

Eg. a, az

NOT TO BE USED BEFORE A PROPER NOUN : A PARIZS, A GÉZA, A JÓSKA, AZ ILONKA etc.

INDEFINITE ARTICLE: refererences a NON-specific and undefined thing or person

Eg. egy (CAREFUL, in this sense it simply means ANY and NOT the number ONE)

Eg.

A black cat is in the garden Mum, but it is not ours, I have never seen it here before.

Egy fekete macska van a kertben Anya, de ez nem a miénk, soha nem láttam ezt itt korábban.

CONTRAST this with:

We have ONE (1)black kitten, three (3)pure white and two(2) ginger in the new litter.

Van egy (1) fekete három(3) tiszta fehér és két (2)iromba cica az új aljban.
